Break Camp and Advance
Deuteronomy 1:6-8 (NIV)
6 The Lord our God said to us at Horeb, “You have stayed long enough at this mountain. 7 Break camp and advance into the hill country of the Amorites; go to all the neighboring peoples in the Arabah, in the mountains, in the western foothills, in the Negev and along the coast, to the land of the Canaanites and to Lebanon, as far as the great river, the Euphrates. 8 See, I have given you this land. Go in and take possession of the land the Lord swore he would give to your fathers—to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob—and to their descendants after them.”
Deuteronomy 1:19-21 (NIV)
19 Then, as the Lord our God commanded us, we set out from Horeb and went toward the hill country of the Amorites through all that vast and dreadful wilderness that you have seen, and so we reached Kadesh Barnea 20 Then I said to you, “You have reached the hill country of the Amorites, which the Lord our God is giving us. 21 See, the Lord your God has given you the land. Go up and take possession of it as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, told you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.
For over 400 years it was struggle, depression and disappointment, but God promised them more.
They were face to face with what they had dreamed of for years
Deuteronomy 1:26-27 (NIV)
26 But you were unwilling to go up; you rebelled against the command of the Lord your God. 27 You grumbled in your tents and said, “The Lord hates us; so he brought us out of Egypt to deliver us into the hands of the Amorites to destroy us.
God literally performed miracles daily to care for His chosen people, but now he was asking them to grow up, mature, to advance.
Because of their immaturity, they didn't have the capacity to see beyond what they had always done and what they had always known.
When God wanted to drop them off at school—they threw a fit.
I wonder where we've set up camp, settled and chosen our safe routine over God’s call and purpose?
When God wants to move you to a new place in life, He requires you to take the first step.
If you don’t take a step, you go nowhere.
Isaiah 43:19 (NIV)
See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
But it’s different. It’s not the WAY I’ve always done it. It breaks my routine. I’ll have to pack-up my tent, my camp lights, my chairs. I’ll lose my favorite spot.
2 Corinthians 3:18 (NKJV)
18 We are all being transformed into the same image from glory to glory by the Spirit of the Lord.
Hebrews 10:38 (NKJV)
38 Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.”
Joshua 1:1-3, 9 (NIV)
1 After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ assistant: 2 “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites. 3 I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses.
9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
Joshua 3:1-4, 8,13-14 (NIV)
3 Early in the morning Joshua and all the Israelites set out from Shittim and went to the Jordan, where they camped before crossing over. 2 After three days the officers went throughout the camp, 3 giving orders to the people: “When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the Levitical priests carrying it, you are to move out from your positions and follow it. 4 Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before.”
8 Tell the priests who carry the ark of the covenant: ‘When you reach the edge of the Jordan’s waters, go and stand in the river.’”
13 And as soon as the priests who carry the ark of the Lord set foot in the Jordan, its waters flowing downstream will be cut off and stand up in a heap.”
14 So when the people broke camp to cross the Jordan, the priests carrying the ark of the covenant went ahead of them. 15 Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water’s edge, 16 the water from upstream stopped flowing.
James 4:8 (NKJV)
8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.
We determine the type of life we experience here on earth. We determine whether or not Gods plan, design and desire for our life is fully realized.
Nothing starts to move until you start to move.
Doors open when you turn the handle.
