My Money | Week 2
When Prosperity Meets Purpose
Mark 10:17-22, 24 (NKJV)
17 Now as He was going out on the road, one came running, knelt before Him, and asked Him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?” 18 So Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. 19 You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not bear false witness,’ ‘Do not defraud,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother.’ ” 20 And he answered and said to Him, “Teacher, all these things I have kept from my youth.” 21 Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me.” 22 But he was sad at this word, and went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. 24 And the disciples were astonished at His words. But Jesus answered again and said to them, “Children, how hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God!
Money is a mirror; it reveals what is already in our hearts
· The rich young ruler didn’t have a money issue, he had a heart condition.
Psalm 35:27 (NKJV) Let them shout for joy and be glad, who favor my righteous cause; and let them say continually, “Let the Lord be magnified, who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant.”
3 John 2 (NKJV) Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.
· We must not forget the purpose for the success and prosperity we are blessed with.
Genesis 12:2-3 (NLT)
2 I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. 3 I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.”
Deuteronomy 8:18 (NKJV)
“And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.
· Blessings aren’t the goal; being a blessing is the goal—We are blessed to be a blessing.
In our economy, the more money we have, the more financially successful we become.
In God’s economy, the more money we give, the more financially successful we become.
Proverbs 11:25 (NIV) A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.
Giving is what puts God’s economy into motion.
Luke 6:38 (NKJV)
Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”
2 Corinthians 9:6 (NKJV) But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.
In God’s economy, you don’t just give; you become a giver.
· You can pray all you want, but if you never plant you will never reap.
When you understand you are called to make a difference, your perspective on money will change.
When prosperity meets purpose, lives are changed!
· How can we go into all the world when we can’t even get through the month?
· Your financial freedom is FOR accomplishing your purpose.
Matthew 6:19-21, 24 (NKJV) “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. 24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.
· If you want to know who your God is just look where your money is spent.
· Money is the great revealer of the heart.
The rich young ruler had an idol—money had become his source—He thought he was lost without it.
· He would die an unhappy man, because he would never fulfill his purpose.
Proverbs 10:22 (KJV) The blessing of the Lord, it makes rich, and He adds no sorrow with it.
· When we fully surrender our heart, everything else will fall into alignment.
· Has your relationship with money revealed a deeper heart condition?
