Samaritan Ministries is Crosspointe's local outreach ministry that is committed to ending hunger in our community.  Our mission is to provide food and common hygiene goods to those who are in need.  In 2007 the Samaritan's Ministry of Crosspointe supplied food and goods to over 365 families in our community.  We want to help you today!

The Harsh Reality of Hunger in Oklahoma

Sadly, Oklahoma ranks sixth in the nation at 14.6 percent in the number of people who are food insecure, which is defined by the USDA as being hungry at times during the year due to lack of money for food. Here is a brief snapshot of the hungry in Eastern Oklahoma:

The Faces of the Hungry in Eastern Oklahoma

  • 39 percent of household members served by emergency pantry programs in Eastern Oklahoma are children under the age of 18 and 14 percent are elderly.
  • 24 percent are homeless.

Poverty in Eastern Oklahoma

  • 76 percent of households served at emergency pantry programs in Eastern Oklahoma have incomes below the official federal poverty level.
  • In 2006 the percentage of Oklahoma children under the age of 18 living in poverty increased by 48 percent. One in every five children in Oklahoma lives in poverty.
